Mendelssohn’s chamber music, a jewel of Ramonticism
Brief presentation of the programme: Felix Mendelssohn’s Sonata No. 2 for cello and piano was published in 1843 and is known for its romantic style. It includes four fascinating movements. Allegro assai vivace begins energetically, alternating between lyrical and virtuosic passages. Allegretto scherzando brings a playful tone of animated rhythms. Adagio (in G major) is a point of emotional culmination with moving melodies that reflect Bach’s influence on Mendelssohn’s work. Lastly, Molto allegro e vivace concludes with a virtuosic dialogue between the cello and the piano. This piece, appreciated for its fusion of classical and romantic styles, is an enchanting selection for chamber music concerts, offering a captivating experience with dynamic interaction and melodic beauty.
