CENTRAL THEME

TAKING CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT, HEALTHY HABITS AND LIFESTYLE

The central theme unifying this edition’s educational proposal is ‘Environmental care, healthy habits and healthy life’.

It is imperative that today’s society develops different ways to connect with the environment. We must ask ourselves whether we are teaching our youth to respect the environment that surrounds us. If so, what values are we imparting?

When answering this question, we may want to emphasise core values such as cooperation, diversity or equality. However, considering that in order to protect our health we need to take care of the environment, concepts such as good eating habits, a healthy lifestyle, responsible consumption, joint responsibility in household chores and respect for the elderly should be included in this list. But most importantly, we should reflect on our decision-making capabilities in order to minimise the impact of our actions due to their repercussion on society.

This year we will work on these issues since understanding and caring for the environment will help future generations have apositive relationship with their environment and their health.

Come and join us!

ACTIVITIES

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: Urban dance

ICTs:  The use of ICTs allows for various entertainment and reflection activities that contribute to the development of different goals of the Summer School, such as solidarity, ecology, human rights, etc.

SPORTS: The sports activities include the practice of traditional sports. getting to know innovative sports (in English) and self-defense.

WORKSHOPS:

First week: Our footprint.

Every day, activists around the world fight against inequality and lead protests to show their disapproval of certain environmental policies. For this reason, we showcase the trajectory of two environmental activists: Greta Thunberg and Jaime Henn.

Activities: ‘The great game of footprint’, which consists of different ICT activities with the aim of producing an audiovisual project to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Second week: The forest is a treasure.

Forests hold more than 80% of animal and plant terrestrial species. For this reason, activists are fighting to combat the degradation of these ecosystems. Yin Yuzhen and Joaquín Araújo are some of them.

Activities: ‘Ecovirus’, cooperative games and different ICT activities.

Third week: A sea of plastics.

There are vast plastic islands on the middle of the big oceans, which end up turning into microplastics. As a result, people such as Boyan Slat intend to clean up the seas, while others transform this waste into recycled materials (Isatou Ceesay) or produce eco-friendly alternatives to plastic (Kevin Kumala).

Activities: cooperation games and ITC activities to learn about decision-making on the practical and responsible use of objects and technological processes.

Fourth week Sustainable transport.

Adopting sustainable transport measures allows for a lesser reliance on fossil fuels, a reduction of the emission of harmful gases and the improvement of the air quality.

Activities: Stay in the hostel and closure.

FIELD TRIPS
