Lecture given by Ernest Garcia, Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country
This lecture is included in the third block of the 37 UEG's programme for the planet. In this block the titles from 7 to 11 of the SDGs will be discussed.
In this lecture Ernest Garcia will explain how ecological transition and just ecological transition are quite common expressions. This idea, the sociologist Ernest Garcia will explain, has to do with a necessary traffic towards sustainability since the current state of things is unsustainable. Garcia will explain how the transition from an unsustainable to a sustainable state is not particularly difficult but the social costs of making this transition in an uncontrolled way would be too great. That is why the speaker will plan the need to control this transition so that it does not lead, if at all possible, to a loss of well-being or an increase in inequality.
