ASSAIG-Grup of Theatre from the Universitat de València releases Wednesday, 14th May (7pm) in the Sala Matilde Salvador from La Nau Cultural Centre, the play ‘El Far’, an adaptation of the drama by Octavi Egea, directed by Pep Sanchis and Nuria Martín, that will be played 15th and 16th as well. Tickets are available on this link.
We are talking about a suitable production that the University group organises each year as a practice on stage of the lifelong learning curse of the UV Performing Arts Club; and the adaptation of the original text by Octavi Egea is fruit of a choral group between professors and actors, a cast formed by students and old students from ASSAIG.
For the first time, ASSAIG confronts “a big drama”, in words of Pep Sanchis, which has supposed a “challenge” for the direction and dramaturgy as “we don’t count with numerous technical resources as comedy”, basing the entertainment of the actors in “a constant dialogue director-actor”, part of the process between both so “the actor achieves to get inside the emotional state of the character”, explains Sanchis.
‘El Far’ tackles the drama of a modest family that looses two twins when they go to the village’s dance. They live in the outskirts of the urban access, they are the lighthouse guardians. 13 years pass by, and the unease and desperation over the lack of news about their disappearance trap, in something similar to a black hole, the progenitors and the little daughter, who remains facing to the sea waiting for a better life.
Both the title and the location of the narration, the lighthouse, stand out for their bold symbolism: even being the light that guides ships during the night, the family is downtrodden to the most absolute darkness. “We’ll be able to see how time changes the personality of the characters, their relationships and their coexistance”, says Sanchis. How, definitely, the suffering for love wears away the same feeling of affection breaking familiar links.
Like in all Wednesdays representations, inside the theatrical programme from the UV Performing Arts Club, at the end of the function, the spectators will be able to participate in a discuss with the specialist team and actors to think about the thematic dealt in the play and those aspects that they may consider interesting.
At the same time, the production of ASSAIG-Grup from UV Theatre is included inside the programmed activities by the University Culture Service during the Year 2024/2025 with a solidary character dedicated to those affected by the DANA, giving the earnings from tickets to the UV Support and recovery programmes post Dana.
