During 23 and 25 January 2019 took place the III International Conference on Grammar Teaching (Congram19 / https://congram19cast.wordpress.com/)
In the conference, organised by the research groups GREAL (UAB) and GIEL (UVEG), and held in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, around 250 lecturers and researchers of 30 countries and three continents have taken part. Contributions stood out due to their richness, regarding the subjects and perspectives commented, and due to the diversity of languages that have coexisted in the conference.
There were conferences and communications in five different languages (Catalan, Spanish, English, French and Portuguese) that dealt, at the same time, with aspects on these or other languages.
GIEL's participation has been of note. With a total of 14 contributions on researches developed by the group, 11 communications, a poster, a plenary conference and an intervention in a roundtable have been presented, and two symposiums have been shared.
María José García Folgado gave one of the three plenary conferences on her research field: a history of grammar teaching. Carmen Rodríguez Gonzalo took part in a roundtable on grammar teaching and writing organised by Xavier Fontich (UAB), together with Joaquim Dolz (University of Geneva - GRAFE-FORENDIF) and Manuel Leonetti (University of Alcalá).
Alícia Santolària and Aina Reig organised two symposiums named, respectively, “La enseñanza de la gramática en los primeros cursos escolares. Por qué, cómo y cuándo” (Grammar teaching on the first scholar years. Why, how and when) and “Joves investigadors en ensenyament de la gramàtica en la L1” (Young researchers in grammar teaching in the L1).
The symposium “Jóvenes investigadores en enseñanza de la gramática en la L1” in which participated Elisa Tormo and Aina Reig, gathered four researchers of four different universities: the Università di Bologna, the Sorbonne Nouvelle de París, the Autònoma de Barcelona and the Universitat de València. The communication of Elisa Tormo was named “Reflexión metalingüística en el proceso de escritura cooperativa” (Metalinguistic reflection in the process of cooperative writing) and the communication of Aina Reig was, “Procesos de cohesión y coherencia discursiva en la textualitzación y la revisión” (Cohesion processes and discursive cohesion in texting and revision).
On the other hand, in the symposium «Grammar teaching in the first scholar years. Why, how and when» Alícia Santolària presented the communication “Explorant la gramàtica de l’argumentació escrita dels aprenents dels primers nivells de l’escolarització” (Exploring the grammar of argumentative writings of students in the firsts academic years). In this symposium participated researchers from Portugal and from the Spanish State (U. of Cadiz, Leon, Barcelona, UAB and UV).
The advances of two ongoing research project works in which GIEL participates were presented.
The incidence of explicit intervention on writing connectors of opinion essays with students of 2º and 4º year of primary school. A case study on children’s metalinguistic activity, through texts, room interactions and interviews). In the symposium, Alícia Santolària presented the communication “Ensenyament de la gramàtica i escriptura: anàlisi de creences de mestres d’Educació Primària” (Teaching of grammar and writing: analysis of beliefs of teachers of Primary Education) together with Llorenç Comajoan and Mariona Casas (GRELL, UVIC).
In relation with these two projects, the communication by María Dolores García Pastor and Montserrat Pérez could also be heard. It was named “Identidad docente y creencias en torno a la enseñanza gramatical en la Educación Primaria: estudio de caso”. (Teaching identity and beliefs concerning grammar teaching in Primary Education: a case study).
Anabella Poggio presented the communications “Una gramática para el discurso. Propuestas para integrar la enseñanza de la Lengua y la Literatura” (Grammar for speech. Proposals for integrating Language and Literature teaching) and “¿Y si aplicamos la gramática al análisis literario? Registros aúlicos de secuencias didácticas para enseñar lengua con literatura”, (What about applying grammar to literary analysis? Class records of didactic sequences for teaching language with literature), this second with Soledad Funes. Beatriz Martín Marchante talked about her research “Relationship between pragmatic-linguistic competence and grammatical level in EFL of Spanish undergraduate students”.
Mara Fuentes presented “Teaching the subjunctive to learners of Spanish as a second or foreign language: findings from the past thirty years”, and Montserrat Pérez, “Secuencia didáctica para aprender sintaxis del español coloquial en Bachillerato” (Didactic sequence for learning syntax of colloquial Spanish in upper secondary school education). Finally, Alícia Martí and Pilar García Vidal presented the poster “Gramàtica i TIC al treball per projectes. Aplicació didàctica en la formació del futur professorat de Secundària”. (Grammar and ITC on work by projects. Didactic application in the training of the future teachers of Secondary school).
