Adolescence and optimal development

Study of positive adolescent development. Study of the needs of adolescents. Design and validation of assessment instruments. Design of interventions to promote the positive development of adolescents and young people. Elaboration of models of extensive educational accompaniment for adolescents. Proposal of services.

Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) are, by definition, dynamic and changing over time. This dynamism of neurodevelopmental disorders means that comorbidity with other disorders and diseases is very high throughout the life cycle, especially in adulthood and ageing. The aim of the Research Group is to study these disorders and their evolution over time, with special emphasis on techniques and methods that improve the abilities of the people who suffer from them and their family environment, so as to generate a better quality of life, promoting the general health not only of the person with a Developmental Disorder but of all the members of the family unit.

 

Critical reading on the internet

Our line aims to assess the psychological components that explain uncritical reading on the internet, as well as to describe and explain how these components develop over the course of adolescence, with the ultimate goal of evaluating ways to improve these critical aspects.

Developing tolerance and promoting coexistence

Study of procedures for the development of tolerance and the promotion of coexistence. Design and validation of evaluation instruments. Proposal of optimising interventions. Creation of local plans for the promotion of coexistence. Proposal of services.

Development of personal, emotional and social competences

Study of socioemotional competences, psychological strengths and developmental tasks throughout life. Design and validation of assessment instruments. Intervention proposals to promte strengths, socioemotional competences and emotional intelligence. Counselling in emotional education and developmental tasks.

Employability: personal and contextual factors, assessment and optimising intervention

Individual factors, personal circumstances and external factors linked to a person's employability or relative position in relation to a job.

Lifelong bonding

Study of emotional attachments: formation, development and loss. Design and validation of assesment instruments. Intervention in the promotion of healthy attachments and modification of dysfunctional attachments. Proposal of services for the improvement of emotional attachments.

Neurodevelopmental and reading disorders

This line focuses on the analysis, from a developmental perspective, of the difficulties in decoding and reading comprehension common in various neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID) or Dyslexia.

Optimal ageing

Cognitive and emotional processes study in healthy elderly people by means of psychological techniques and psychological intervention for the optimisation of basic processes such as memory, coping and emotions.

Parentality and optimal development

Study of parental competences to promote optimal development in childhood and adolescence. Design and validation of assessment instruments. Design of optimising interventions to improve parental competences. Proposal of services for the improvement of parental competences.

Perinatal psychology and optimal development

Study of optimising and risk conditions to promote optimal perinatal development. Design and validation of assessment instruments. Design of optimising perinatal interventions. Collaboration with associations and institutions in the improvement of perinatal health. Proposal of services.

Psychology of Ageing

Active and healthy ageing is a construct of growing relevance. In its psychological aspect, clinical (cognitive and emotional), functional, cultural and socio-familial aspects must be included, as well as different demographic and lifestyle variables. Among the objectives of the group is the assessment and intervention throughout the life cycle, including the optimisation of their development, both of the persons or patients involved and their family environment, carers, etc., especially in the cognitive, emotional, functional and lifestyle areas. Within frailty in ageing, the topic of cognitive frailty and the variables involved in it is of particular interest.
