Presentation

The food crisis associated with the climate change is one of the biggest challenges for humanity's survival, which we are confronting as a society in the 21st century. In the framework of the innovation strategy designed by the Universitat de València, being sustainable agri-food one of its main linchpins, the web portal “STO-Agro” aims to show the updated scientific-technological offer of the Universitat de València in the field of agri-food and to facilitate the access to capacities, research lines, resources, projects, results and research groups from our university in this subject.

The portal “STO-Agro” intends to contribute to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology from the university towards society and the business network, making the enormous potential of the Universitat de València in agri-food innovation accessible, with multidisciplinary approaches that include new technologies, particularly those related with digitalisation, big data, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc.

The thematic areas of the research groups from the Universitat de València cover all the fields related to agri-food, from the improvement and optimisation of the food production in the conditions imposed by the climate change, to the reduction of environmental impacts and the implementation of circular bioeconomy strategies.

The capacities and resources offered by the Universitat de València focus on the different sectors of the food industry, including the primary sections (development of new vegetal materials, integrated management of crops, introduction of alternative production methods, use of more efficient post-harvest techniques, etc.), in the ancillary services to agri-food (logistics, environmentally friendly transportation of products, legislative aspects, food quality and security and its control throughout all the production process, etc.) and, of course, in the activities which, in an innovative way, use waste or by-products for its reintroduction in the food chain, or its use as a source of energy or bioproducts (water usage, waste processing, etc.).

The Universitat de València is committed to provide all its potential to the society in order to promote the emergency of a highly innovative, efficient, safe and quality agri-food model, which guarantees the protection of the environment, being able to match productivity and competitiveness demands with the sustainable use of biological resources, waste minimisation, assessment of by-products and new industrial developments. As part of this commitment, STO-Agro is configured as an essential tool for showing the capacities, research lines, resources, projects, results and research groups from the Universitat de València, making this information accessible and promoting its transfer so as to favour the transformation towards a sustainable agri-food model which assures the right to a quality diet for everybody.

All the UV STO in matters of Agri-food is structured fundamentally according to two interlinked dimensions:

  1. Type of STO
  • UV capacities in matters of Agri-food
  • UV research lines in matters of Agri-food
  • UV research groups in matters of Agri-food
  • UV research resources in matters of Agri-food
  • UV research projects in matters of Agri-food
  • UV research results in matters of Agri-food
  1. Taxonomy "Horizonte-Europa"
  • Nutrition, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture and environment
    • Environmental observation
    • Biodiversity and natural resources
    • Agriculture, forestry and rural areas
    • Seas, oceans and inland waters
    • Circulars systems
    • Bio-based innovation systems in the UE bioeconomy

Aiming to consolidate a culture of innovation in the Valencian Community, the Dirección General de Innovación (Conselleria de Innovación, Universidades, Ciencia y Sociedad Digital) promotes the participation of university students in the strategy of detection and promotion of the scientific-technological capacities of the Universitat de València in the agri-food sector, in the project “AgroTec-Alumni” which underlies the array of this STO-Agro platform.

The project has been developed by the following services from the Universitat de València:
