Optimization of the preservation and search of fertility markers in spermatozoids of productive interest animals

The main objective of this project is to study the evolution of several sperm parameters mainly related with the energy metabolism and the protein profile of spermatozoids in different situations such as refrigerated conservation or cryopreservation or the capacity development, as well as its predictive capability of fertility.

Description

From a basic point of view, this project will allow us to obtain very valuable information related to the existing relation between the different sperm parameters, metabolites and protein biomarkers and perform a more extensive study about the relevant physiological events (such as capacity development) and the effect of certain treatments such as freezing or refrigeration of sperm. From an applied point of view, the results of this project can result in an important advance towards the precision and utility of the spermiogram to predict the fertilizing potential of a semen sample in different species and help optimize the protocols of semen preservation. For the achievement of this main goal the following specific objectives are proposed:

Objective 1: Study the relation of the different sperm parameters with fertility in various animal species of productive interest in dairy cattle and sea urchins.

Objective 2: Study the effect of preservation in different sperm parameters, proteome and metabolome in different animal species of productive interest in dairy goats and sea urchins.
