The study examines students’ perceptions of language and content learning in a university Legal English course in Finland.

The study explores the integration of language and disciplinary learning in a university Legal English course in Finland through a soft CLIL approach. This approach allows language learning to be developed through activities that simultaneously promote the acquisition of disciplinary knowledge in the field of law. Drawing on students’ self-perceptions before and after the course, the study examines perceived changes in both language skills and disciplinary knowledge. The findings indicate perceived improvements particularly in spoken English, legal vocabulary and knowledge related to law. The study highlights the potential of integrating language and content in higher education and illustrates how CLIL approaches can be adapted to university-level English for Specific Purposes courses.
