About us

The TeLL-ME (Teaching and Learning Languages in Multilingual Education) research group was created with the aim of promoting research in applied linguistics within the field of foreign language teaching. In an increasingly globalized world, language learning has become a key factor in fostering cultural convergence and advancing knowledge. This growing importance is reflected both in the ongoing evolution of language teaching methods and approaches over time and in the significant expansion of research in this area, particularly since the second half of the twentieth century.

Over the past decade, the demand for language education in Europe has largely taken shape through the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach. This model integrates the teaching of curricular content with the learning of a foreign language, delivering subjects such as history, music, or biology in a language other than the students’ mother tongue. However, despite considerable efforts by educators and institutions, linguistic outcomes in Spain have not met initial expectations.

This is the context that motivated the creation of the TeLL-ME research group, which is made up of specialists in applied linguistics and language education. The group is grounded in two core pillars: classroom-based educational research and an interdisciplinary perspective. Its aim is to conduct empirical studies that directly involve the key agents of the educational process—students, teachers, academic leaders, and trainers—across both secondary and higher education. The group’s main research lines include CLIL and EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction), innovative teaching methodologies, language education for specific purposes, the use of digital technologies, teacher training, inclusive education, and intercultural communicative competence.
