Universitat de València opens the Experimenta Fair for science dissemination and STEM projects promotion
The activity will take place on Sunday 26 April, at the Valencia Science Museum. It is aimed at secondary education, bachillerato and vocational training students. Registration, with a description of the project, is open until 25 January.
The Experimenta Fair 2026 aims to turn students into active and creative protagonists of science and technology. The objective is for each participating group (of a maximum of four people) to work on an experimental project in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with the help of their teacher, to present and explain it, and to do so with a special focus on the aspects of physics involved. The activity also aims to encourage and increase the participation of women.
Proposals may belong to any field or subject, although they must highlight a physical principle or its practical application, and especially their interrelationship. There are two categories of participation and competition: physics demonstrations and experiments, and technological application projects.
Five prizes will be awarded among the projects presented at the fair, four of which will receive 150 € for each participant in the group, and another which will reward the project most voted for by the visiting public, with 100 € per participant. The work associated with the supervision of the projects presented will also be certified, and various honourable mentions and prizes will be awarded to teachers with winning projects: materials for setting up physics or technology experiments.
The smooth running of the experiments and prototypes, the participants' correct understanding of their work and the clarity of their explanations are the most highly valued aspects. The awards ceremony will take place during the closing ceremony of the fair. An exhibition of the winning projects will be organised at a later date.
"Innovation and technological development depend, to a large extent, on curiosity and enthusiasm to learn about and understand everything around us, even the most everyday things. It is very important that students get involved first-hand and enjoy science" emphasises the Experimenta organisation. The Fair aims to encourage work associated with experimental projects, so that students become familiar with reality, develop their ability to discuss and learn to relate what they observe to the principles of science and technological applications.
After the Experimenta Fair, the EXPERIMENTA TOP will take place, an exhibition for the classified projects in which student videos will explain their nature. These videos and material will be published online for education and dissemination.
The Experimenta Contest Fair was created in 2005 in order to involve students actively and creatively with the Global Year of Physics. The students eagerness was so extraordinary the event became an annual tradition, with this being its 21st edition.
The initiative has the support of Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (FECYT-MICIU). Universitat de València is supported by the Corpuscular Physics Institute (IFIC), the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I), Incorporation Delegation, the Quality and Training Centre Sanchis Guarner, Equality Unit, Physics Work Group Arquímedes and ScienceFlows Group, as well as other external entitiessuch as Príncipe Felipe Science Museum, València City Hall and Spanish Royal Society of Physics.
