UV secures three of the thirteen Jean Monnet Chairs awarded in Spain and leads the results in the Valencian Community

The Universitat de València (UV) ranks among the Spanish universities with the strongest results in the Jean Monnet actions of the Erasmus+ 2026 call, having secured three of the thirteen Chairs awarded to Spanish higher education institutions. A total of 72 Jean Monnet Chairs have been funded worldwide, and UV's result represents almost a quarter of all those awarded in Spain, making it the Valencian university with the highest number of selected projects.

Jean Monnet Chairs are awarded to university academics specialising in European Union studies and aim to strengthen teaching, research and the dissemination of knowledge on European integration. Through these initiatives, the European Commission promotes analysis and debate on some of the European Union's main priorities and challenges.

The three Chairs awarded to the Universitat de València have been granted to members of the Faculty of Law. The projects will be led by María Jesús García García, from the Department of Administrative and Procedural Law; by Alfredo García Prats, from the Department of Financial Law and Legal History; and by Valentín Bou Franch, from the Department of International Law "Adolfo Miaja de la Muela".

The initiatives will address some of the key challenges currently facing the European Union, including the protection of fundamental rights, immigration and asylum policies, consumer rights in the Single Market and the Digital Single Market, as well as issues related to taxation, international trade and European competitiveness in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.

In addition to this outstanding result at national level, the Universitat de València leads the results achieved by universities in the Valencian Community. Of the eight Jean Monnet projects awarded to Valencian universities, three have been granted to UV, ahead of Universitat Jaume I, the University of Alicante and the Miguel Hernández University of Elche.

These new awards strengthen the presence of the Universitat de València in one of Europe's flagship initiatives for the promotion of European Union studies and recognise the expertise and long-standing commitment of its academic staff in this field.
