The ‘Paraules contra l’Oblit’ Association (Words against forgetting) / Grupo de Memoria Histórica de Godella (Historic Memory Group of Godella), headed by Xavier Costa professor of Sociology of the UV, has organised an opening ceremony of the commemorative monument ‘to the victims of the civil war and the repression of Franco’, that will take place in the Ermita square, next to the street Paterna, in Godella, on 6 December at 12 hours.
The ‘Paraules contra l’Oblit’ Association was born in Godella, in the context of the current democratic framework, in order to recover the memory of those people who faced repression due to their ideas. The sculpture, by the artist Vicente Ortí, has been possible thanks to the approval of the participatory municipal budgets of 2016.
The event will be presented by Pilar Moltó, and Matías Alonso (Grupo de la Recuperación de la Memoria Histórica de Valencia) (Group for the Recovery of Valencian Historic Memory), and Xavier Costa will also participate. The event will be closed by the artist Vicente Ortí, professor of Sculpture of Fine Arts of Valencia.
