Jon Star and Heather Hill bring American education system closer to UV’s faculty

Talk in Office of the Principal Building.

This week, professors Jon Star and Heather Hill, full university professors of Harvard Graduates School of Education, have met almost one hundred UV’s professors to give a talk about training and evaluation of US’ faculty. Talks have taken place in Faculty of Teacher Training and in UV’s Office of the Principal Building.

Faculty of Teacher Training has hosted the first lecture, which dealt with ‘Perspective in Mathematics faculty training’. Introduced by Vice-Principal for Postgraduate Studies, Rafael Crespo, lecturers Jon Star and Heather Hill have focused on faculty training in the area of Mathematics and have actively involved the participants in a problem-solving exercise. 

In the afternoon, American professors have given a talk about ‘The evaluation of faculty in the US: a case study’ in the Office of the Principal Building. In this second lecture, Star and Hill dealt with a case study in the USA, the reform of evaluation systems and the faculty accountability for the quality of their work. In this case, the lecture has been introduced by Vice-Principal for Training Policies and Educational Quality, Ramón López Martín, accompanied by the president of the Valencian School Board, Encarna Cuenca. 

The event has taken place in 20 June, within the series of conferences resulting of the agreement between the Universitat de València and the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University, together with the collaboration of the Valencian School Board.
