The principal of Universitat de València, Esteban Morcillo, opens tomorrow the 17th International Conference of Catalan Language and Literature, which will take place in the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication from 7 to 10 July. The conference has been organised by the Catalan Language and Literature Association (AILLC) that aims to promote and encourage the studies in Catalan linguistics, philology and literature. In this edition, together with the Faculty of Languages Studies, the Interuniversity Institute of Valencian Philology has also participated.

The conference of this year, according to professor Manuel Pérez Saldanya, president of the organising committee, will pay special attention to the Valencian cultural environment, to its literary tradition and to the problem of collective support of the language. In this edition the talks and debates have been structured around four thematic concepts: culture and language from 15th to 18th centuries; a hundred years of Catalan literature 1859-1959; multilingualism and interculturality; and the living word and the digital word.
