The Cultural Centre La Nau of Universitat de València hosted on Thursday 2 July the presentation of the conferences SINERGIA, for the creation of a Spanish University Orchestra Network pioneer within the national scene. The conferences have promoted the encounter between 15 musical ensembles, from 1 July to 3 July.

In the opening of the conferences, the vice-principal of Culture and Equality of Universitat de València, Antonio Ariño, referred to the need of stablishing bonds and exchanging cultural resources among the Spanish universities, because under different offices of the vice-principal all of them undertake ambitious programmes that could have a bigger impact if these experiences have been shared. In this sense, he indicates that it would be desirable that CRUE (Conference of Spanish University Rectors) had a culture sectorial to work in a coordinate way.

Antonio Ariño was accompanied in the table by the director of the Culture Service of the University of Alacant, Faust Ripoll; the director of Santander Universities in the Levante Area, José María García de los Ríos; the vice-principal of University Extension and Institutional Relations of the Alcalá de Henares University, José Raúl Fernández del Castillo; and the vice-principal of Communication and Culture of the University of Murcia, José Antonio Gómez, whose orchestra performs tonight in the Claustro of La Nau.

To Ripoll, “it is essential that students get involved and participate in the activities that the different universities propose, which contribute to a comprehensive training”, words endorsed also by the vice-principal from Madrid, who used this context to claim cultural financing.

García de los Ríos, on his behalf, has indicated that the projects that shares the banking institution which it represents with Universitat de València in the field of music “are part of the compromise of Banco Santander with higher education” and has emphasised the importance of the Valencian academic institution in its social responsibility policies.

Finally, José Antonio Gómez referred to SINERGIA as “a great idea” to “strengthen and reinforce” the role of orchestra within the university environment.

Four concerts
The concerts of the more important university orchestras of Spain finish these conferences every night, from 30 June, when the Orquestra Filharmònica of Universitat de València performed, followed on 1 July of the Orquestra Filharmònica of University of Alacant; 2 July, the Orquesta Universitaria of Murcia; and today, 3 July, the Orquesta of University of Granada.

These first conferences of musical experience exchange between the Spanish universities orchestras aim to create synergies between the participant ensembles -fifteen- and, by extension of it universities, to facilitate the creation of new forums and a production altogether of activities.

The Orchestra of University of Granada closes today SINERGIA
The Orchestra of University of Granada, under the direction of Gabriel Delgado, closes the concerts within the framework of the sessions SINERGIA, this Friday 3 July at 22:30h, in the Claustro at the Centre Cultural La Nau of Universitat de València.

He will offer a concert with two clearly differentiated parts that will have the intervention of Adriana Zarzuela (violin) as a soloist. The first part is completely classic and will be dedicated to Mozart. “We always take into account the classic factor because it occurs in any orchestra and, specially, the work of Mozart”, indicates the Grenadian director.

The overture of “Le nozze di Figaro, K. 492” is a piece with which the university orchestra of Granada “is starting to roll”. “It is one of the works that we will be presenting at the National Auditorium of Music together with the Chorus of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid”, indicates Delgado.

Then, the orchestra will play the “Violin Concerto nº 5, in A major, K. 219”, also from Mozart, that will feature the soloist. “Adriana Zarzuela is leaving the orchestra and we want her to say goodbye by playing the Violin Concerto nº 5, so special by its Turkish touch, full of typical resources in Mozart to describe this type of music”, explains Gabriel Delgado.

In the second part, the Orchestra of University of Granada is playing the “Symphony nº 9, E-flat major, op. 90”, from Dmitri Shostakóvich (1906-1975), who will perform a few days before landing in Valencia, in the Granada International Festival. “This piece has been planned because it totally breaks with the first Mozart’s style part. To musicians it is very attractive to play, to the conductor is is a challenge, and to the public, appealing. The treatment of the harmony is different from the Baroque classic music, so it compensates very well the programme”, says the conductor, for whom the meeting of university orchestras in the SINERGIA sessions has been “a whole success”. “We work far away, in our cities and this way we can share the our own experiences. It is an initiative very interesting and necessary”, he holds.
