The Universitat gives, tomorrow Wednesday, its Medal to Andreu Alfaro, in a posthumous ceremony with the attendance of the president of Valencian Government

The Universitat de València gives, tomorrow Wednesday, the Medal of the institution to Andreu Alfaro, posthumously, in an academic ceremony co-presided by the principal of the Universitat, Esteban Morcillo, and the president of Valencian Government, Ximo Puig. During the ceremony will be launched a book that collects all his contribution to century XX sculpture, as well as interviews to Alfaro and studies which analyse his work.


Governing Council of Universitat de València agrees on 5 April 2011, the concession, posthumously, of the Medal of the academic institution to Andreu Alfaro, according to relevant merits which get together in the sculptor, his artistic contributions, his prolific production, internationally projected, and his impact on arts of his time.  
The institutional ceremony of the Medal, under the co-presidency of the principal of the Universitat, Esteban Morcillo, and the president of the Valencian Government, Ximo Puig, is celebrated in the Paraninfo of the Universitat this Wednesday, 17 February, at 18 hours. During the session, familiars of Andreu Alfaro will received the highest distintion of the Universitat de València and it will be launched the book “Andreu Alfaro. En torno a la escultura. Escritos y entrevistas” from which are editors professors José Martín Martínez and Evangelina Rodríguez Cuadros, and which has been edited by Publicacions de la Universitat de València.   The art historian J. F. Yvars will participate too.
About Andreu Alfaro
Andreu Alfaro Hernández (Valencia, 1929- Rocafort, 2012) was a self-taught artist who began his exhibition activity in 1957, being part of Parpallo Group between 1959 and 1961.
Inspired in authors like Constantin Brancusi, Julio González or Jorge Oteiza, the sculpture of Alfaro belongs to constructivist tradition, for the materials use  and industrial techniques at the service of a formal style extremely refined.  
His production, typified by abstract and minimalist geometries  of steel and aluminium and marble column which play with the light, the piece, the series and the colour,  has been prolific, exceeding two thousand of sculptures which have been exhibited on many occasions in the Vennice Biennale and in exhibitions in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Basel, Paris and Madrid, among others.
