The suffragist movement appeared in England on the verge of the First World War (1914-1918). Most of the suffragists did not come from upper classes, but they came from a working class who saw, with impotence, how their peaceful protests were useless. Then they radicalised and, in the tireless fight to achieve equality, they risked to lose everything: their job, their homes, their children and theirs lives. The main character is Maud (Carey Mulligan), a woman who strenuously reclaimed the dignity of women.
