Seminar. Showing how reality have space for initiatives, concepts and models of economic and social intervention alternative to the dominant economic system.

The ultimate goal of this first seminar on “Other ways of doing Economy” organised by the Universitat de València is to highlight how reality have space for initiatives, concepts and models of economic and social intervention alternative to the dominant economic system, and where the human being and its comprehensive development is the origin and ultimate goal of the economic and social process.

First of all, we will approach the so-called “Barefoot Economics” and the development model at human scale. We will also have the participation of an exceptional speaker, Professor Manfred Max-Neefs, 1983 Nobel Prize in Alternative Economics. The Universitat de València is honoured to have him with us.

Secondly, we will discuss the analytical perspective of the Economy for the Common Good built up by Christian Felber. This model of economic intervention aims to synchronise the values of the real economy with the constitutional principles under the postulate according to which the economic activity must serve to general interest and common or public good.

And finally, we will analyse the analytical approach of Social Economy. Social Economy constitutes an institutional sector where the human being is the origin and ultimate goal of the economic process. Located between public activity and the capitalist logic of the market, it articulates its activity on the values of democracy, justice, solidarity and the full and comprehensive development of people.
