Assaig, a Valencian theatre group from Universitat de València officially ends the celebrations of its 25th anniversary with the play “París, anys 60” (Paris in the 60´s), the last play which was written by the missing Josep Lluís Sirera along with his brother Rodolf. It will take place this Friday, the 24th of June, at 10.30 p.m. The premiere opens the programme of Festival Serenates, and at the same time celebrates la Nit de Sant Joan. (St John´s Eve).

For Rodolf Sirera “The play is a reflection - at times nostaligic, at times amusing, of what Universitat de València used to be during the years when we dreamed of the kind of freedom which can only be imagined outside of Spain”. He adds that “What I couldn´t know is that‘París, anys 60’ was the last play that I was going to write with my brother”.

The play is a mixture of humor, an original and dinamic script as well as live rock music from the 60´s preformed by a Valencian band “Incompeténcia”. Twenty six actors and actresses who have already preformed in other plays by the theatre group, portray different characters of those times, while the directing team consists of Pep Llopis (in charge of music) and Pep Sanchiz with Carles Montoliu (in charge of stage direction).

Students studying ephemeral sculpture in the Faculty of Fine Arts and students doing vocational training courses in costume design, hair and make-up at Marxadella and Cabanyal high schools, have colaborated in the production of the play.

The play can be seen in Claustro del Centro Cultural La Nau of UV on Friday 24th of June at 10.30 p.m. The tickets can be purchased in the shop of Universitat de València for three euros.

The closing ceremony of the 25th anniversary of Assaig Theatre Group of Universitat de València

During this academic year, ASSAIG has done six monographic courses and has produced revivals of the four most important and highly awarded plays in the group´s history: “Per Sant Lluc”, “El dia que Bertolt Brecht va morir a Finlàndia”, “Les dones de Sade” and “Parelles de fet, de fet parelles”. Apart from this, a book-catalogue has been published, recording the activity of one of the most important theatre groups and its activity during a quater of a century.

For its director, Pep Sanchis “this celebration has commemorated the last 25 years of intense stage activity and has renewed connections with all the students who have participated in our productions, many of whom were already professionals in stage arts in Valencia! According to Sanchis “the commemoration of the last 25 years has made us look back and write history of one of the most solidified university theatre groups in the country”.
