A study carried out by the researcher Carme Agustí proves that sexual pheromones and drug abuse activate similarly the reward neural networks in rats. The award obtaining system is a neural network which activates to allow the animals to go find the natural awards: food and sex. Drugs “hack” this reward system and animals look for drug abuse instead of looking for natural awards. The study is relevant to addictive pathologies.
