The upcoming seminar will briefly discuss the advantages and disadvantages of numerical modelling and the use of artificial intelligence in weather forecasting. Both methods will be compared, as well as the potential of combining them to forecast the weather more effectively. In addition, there will be a brief description of the Immediate Forecasting System (SisPI), operational at the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), highlighting its achievements and limitations. This will be followed by a discussion of some work carried out in Cuba to forecast different meteorological variables using artificial intelligence programmes. Finally, a group of research projects aimed at weather forecasting using neural networks in graphs will be presented, and the prospects for combining this method with numerical modelling will be analysed.
Presented by:
- Maibys Sierra Lorenzo, Assistant Researcher and Head of the Numerical Weather Modelling Group at the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) and Assistant Professor at the Higher Institute of Applied Sciences and Technologies (InSTEC)
- Alfo José Batista Leyva, Full Professor at InSTEC and Professor Emeritus at the University of Havana.
Date: Wednesday, 21 January, at 11:00 a.m.
Location: Plant Protection Room, Institut Valencià d'Investigacions Agràries (IVIA).
