On 13 May, from 09:30 to 13:30, the Casa de la Ciencia (CSIC, Valencia) will host the international symposium ‘Phenotypic responses to environmental variability: understanding the mechanisms underlying adaptation’, organised by Juli G. Pausas and Francesco de Bello, researchers at the Centre for Research on Desertification (CIDE, CSIC-UV-GVA).

This scientific meeting will bring together international specialists to analyse how organisms and ecosystems respond to environmental variability. Taking an integrative approach, the symposium will address the various mechanisms of adaptation, ranging from rapid and reversible responses, such as phenotypic plasticity and epigenetic processes, to genetic and evolutionary changes that occur over generations.

The presentations will explore how these processes influence the resilience of biological populations and communities, as well as their ability to persist in the face of changing environmental conditions. Recent advances in the study of functional traits, ecological dynamics and responses across temporal and environmental gradients will also be presented.

The programme will also include a discussion on how this knowledge can be applied in key areas such as biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration, helping to improve decision-making in the face of current environmental challenges.

The session, which is open to the public, is aimed at the scientific community, university students and anyone interested in science and the environment, and offers an opportunity to learn first-hand about the research currently being carried out in this field.

Free admission with prior registration (link available in the attached flyer).
