With over 4,500 students currently enrolled in its Doctoral Programmes, the Universitat de València offers one of the most comprehensive doctoral portfolios in the Spanish university system and has a well-established reputation as a leading institution for advanced research training.

The UV’s doctoral offering covers a broad range of disciplines: 17 programmes in Basic Sciences and Engineering, 13 in Health Sciences, 20 in Social Sciences, and 10 in Humanities. All programmes are designed to promote innovation, excellence, and internationalisation among future PhD holders.

Internationalisation is one of the strategic pillars of the Doctoral School, with strong support for joint doctoral supervision (cotutelle) agreements with other universities and for theses awarded an international mention. In fact, around 30% of all theses defended each academic year are carried out in collaboration with academic institutions from around the world.

The Universitat de València also stands out for its intense research activity, both in qualitative and quantitative terms. Its scientific output consistently ranks it among the top Spanish universities in major international rankings. The UV has joint research institutes with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and has earned prestigious excellence recognitions such as the 'Severo Ochoa' and 'María de Maeztu' seals.

To attract and nurture research talent, the UV offers specific programmes such as the ‘Attraction of Talent’ predoctoral grants, which enable outstanding students to develop their academic careers at the institution. Additional support includes funding for predoctoral mobility, short-term stays abroad for faculty members, and participation of visiting researchers, all within a top-tier scientific infrastructure and access to precompetitive projects and European funding programmes.

As part of its commitment to innovation and knowledge transfer, the UV runs the ‘Valora i Transfereix’ programme, which supports proof-of-concept research projects. It also promotes Industrial Doctorates and other collaborative PhD models with public and private sector organisations, fostering connections between academic research and the productive sector.

In this regard, the UV’s Science Park plays a key role, hosting over 90 innovative companies emerging from scientific research. Furthermore, the university operates a business incubator for spin-offs and early-stage projects, as well as three business nurseries that provide an ideal environment for the development and consolidation of startups and new technological initiatives.
