Capgemini organises #GAMEOFCLOUD, a university hackathon about IoT and cloud

The competition is held tomorrow, 24 November in the Universities of Valencia, Oviedo, Murcia and the Politécnica de Madrid.

Madrid, 23 November, 2017 Capgemini, a global reference in consulting services, technology and digital transformation, has launched the university hackathon #GAMEOFCLOUD which will be developed simultaneously in four Spanish universities tomorrow November 24.  The competition, which has the sponsorship of IBM and is the first in this category that Capgemini organizes in Spain, will gather young talents around a fun and bold challenge related to IoT and cloud.

Both enterprises are working together with the Universitat de València, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, University of Oviedo and the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Murcia. These centres will host in a synchronized way this hackathon of national scope in which it is foreseen that more than 40 multidisciplinary teams of between 3 and 5 people will participate that, during 12 intensive hours, will experiment with new technologies.

The challenge that #GAMEOFCLOUD proposes to the teams is to generate a small visual or auditory production based on the capture of movements through Kinect cameras (Microsoft) in a square scenario and its processing through software of its own creation using the Capgemini framework (Devonfw) and the tools and APIs available on the cloud platform IBM Cloud

The final goal is to create a system for capturing movements (those of a choreography, for example) through the cameras - part related to IoT - and upload this information to the cloud IBM Cloud by streaming and in real time, to be treated by a Node-RED module fully developed in Javascript, and thus generate a visual or auditory signal (at the discretion of the participants) on a television screen or projector-part linked to the cloud and microservices.

The jury, made up of professionals from Capgemini, IBM, theuniversities and representatives of the Innovation and Digital areas of some of our most important clients in the national field, will choose a finalist team from each campus, taking into account the degree of finalization of the project and its viability, the originality of the idea, the technical difficulty, the design and usability. All in all, the set of the staging will be valued, starting from the movements until their translation in the form of visual or sound signals in real time. Subsequently, the jury will choose the winner project among four finalists.

Each of the four winning teams of each university will receive a prize of 1,000 euros in an Amazon gift voucher and the national winner will receive another prize worth 2,000 euros. The event is also an environment conducive to young people coming into contact with the world of the company and vice versa and having the opportunity to become part of Capgemini's talent program with scholarships, internships and professional opportunities.

This initiative is a part of Capgemini’s global commitment to applied innovation, to conceive and develop applications in a collaborative way and to promote the transfer of knowledge by technological specializations and by business sectors.

The participants will have to go with a computer and all the accessory elements they consider (mouse, keyboard, etc.).  The legal bases are available here
