WATER LANDSCAPES AND HERITAGE
  1. Studies on historical irrigation: The team analyses the traditional irrigation systems in the regions of Valencia. The studies are based on the preparation of an inventory and catalogue of water heritage elements (diversion dams, irrigation ditches, splitters, traps, pools, aqueducts, rainwater tanks, mills, “light factories” [old mills where electricity was generated by hydraulic energy], fulling mills, salt marshes ...), the creation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) and digital mapping and the evaluation of water elements and landscapes. Up to now the team has conducted a study of the regions of Valencia (Vall de Cofrentes-Ayora, La Plana de Requena-Utiel, La Canal de Navarrés, La Costera, El Racó d'Ademuz, La Foia Bunyol-Xiva, El Camp de Túria, La Serrania, La Safor, La Ribera Baixa, La Ribera Alta, La Vall d'Albaida, L'Alt Palancia, l'Horta de València, L'Alt Millars), continuing today with the regions of Alt Vinalopó and Vinalopó Mitjà, and the pilot study of the basing of the Alfambra river in the province of Teruel. ESTEPA collaborates with the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage and Valencian and the Ministry for Environmental Affairs.
  2. European R&D Project "Foggara. Inventory, analysis and valorisation of traditional water techniques of European and Saharan drainage tunnels " ICA3-CT-2002-10029-FOGGARA. Period: May 2003-July 2006. Its aim is to study horizontal drainage systems for agricultural use and human supply, its relationship to the environment and its heritage value. The results of this project are summarised in the following publication.
  3. University of Valencia Project: “Las foggaras en la plataforma alicantino-murciano-albaceteña” (Foggaras in the platform of Alicante, Murcia and Albacete), funded by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Research (2006-2007).
  4. Study and monitoring the path and pipe work of the Júcar-Vinalopó: since 2002 ESTEPA provides technical support to the pipe work of the Júcar-Vinalopó on issues related to ethnography and geography.

  

 

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AND TERRITORIAL STUDIES
  1. Strategic Planning: The team has experience in municipal strategic planning, carried out in the municipalities of Cortes de Pallás, Sueca and la Pobla de Vallbona.
  2. Local Agenda 21: As with strategic planning, ESTEPA has conducted Agenda 21 in Sueca and Turís.
  3. Municipal Action Plans: we have conducted studies on historic centres, citizen participation, traditional shops and large shopping centres of the metropolitan area of Valencia.
  4. Territorial analysis: we have conducted geographical studies on a regional, linked to the Operational Programmes of Rural Diversification (PRODER) and the LEADER Programme. There have also been regional studies for companies and individuals.
  5. Municipal technical advice: ESTEPA provides technical advice for the municipal councils of Cortes de Pallás and Sueca, in relation to the development of the strategic lines of the Municipal Strategic Plans.
