The territorial perspective takes into account, on the one hand, local production systems and labour markets and, on the other hand, entrepreneurship and the business and organisational climate. As cross-cutting elements, the gender perspective, the role of young people and immigration, among others, are considered. 2. Social capital and territorial development: social networks, power elites and leadership in rural areas. This line of work uses the Social Network Analysis approach. This line of research is completed with the thematic areas of crisis and resilience in local communities. 3. Entrepreneurial fabric and socio-productive systems in rural and intermediate areas: culture and entrepreneurial networks, innovation processes, social networks and, in general, factors that contribute to territorial social capital and to processes of social and economic transformation. Recently, and in connection with the work on social capital, work is being done on issues of social innovation in development projects and initiatives in rural areas. 4. Biography | |||
My background is originally in Economics but specialised in local development in general and rural development in particular. I am familiar with different social disciplines such as Geography, Sociology, Economics and Anthropology, and how they contribute to understanding rural transformations at local and regional level. My main research interest is the role of social innovation in the promotion of community-led development in rural areas. Social economy, social enterprise and vulnerable groups are also at the core of my work. As result of my interdisciplinar profile, I have published in journals of Economics (Revista de Economía Crítica, Agriculture), Geography (Cuadernos Geográficos, Documents d'Anàlisi Geogràfica, Journal of Rural Studies), Sociology (Sociologia e politiche sociali, Sociologia Ruralis) and Environmental Studies (Sustainability, Land), among others. In total, I have published more than 25 scientific articles and book chapters, and participated in more than 50 scientific conferences (most of them international). My research projects have a strong international focus due to several stays mostly in UK-based research centres: the James Hutton Institute (Aberdeen) in 2018; the University of Lincoln (Lincoln) in 2019; and Northumbria University (Newcastle) in 2022-2023. I am currently visting scholar at the Northumbria Centre for Innovation, Regional Transformation and Entrepreneurship, (Northumbria University - Business School). I have been involved in national and European projects addressing different dimensions and problems of rural areas (e.g., ROBUST) as well as knowledge transfer projects. In these projects I have mainly implemented qualitative techniques, in addition to Social Network Analysis, worked closely with practitioners and third sector organisations, such as LEADER Local Action Groups and other charities in rural England. |
