New Approaches in the Supervision of Final Degree and Master's Theses. Collaborative Learning and Tutorial Decalogue for the Completion of Final Projects. (UV-SFPIE_PIEE-2733786)
The purpose of this project is to implement an innovative methodology based on collaborative learning and to develop a decalogue to guide the tutorial action, increasing the ratio of students who present and defend their Final Degree Project (TFG) in the Degree of Geography and Environment at the University of Valencia. It is worth noting that this project is a continuation and expansion of the PID titled “New Approaches in the Supervision of Final Degree and Master's Theses. Collaborative Learning as a Tool for the Completion of Final Projects.” (UV-SFPIE_PID-2078711).
In recent years, it has been observed that a considerable number of students fail to present their projects during the first enrollment in this course, delaying the completion of their studies. To address this situation, an innovation in the tutorial action of the TFG has been introduced, based on collaborative learning among students, as a tool to improve motivation and commitment, thereby increasing the ratio of projects presented in the first enrollment. To achieve this, various actions have been undertaken, including group formative/orientation sessions and peer tutoring processes. Initial results show a higher percentage of projects presented by those who adopted the proposed methodology compared to those who did not.
Furthermore, surveys and discussion groups have been conducted with students and professors from the Department of Geography to investigate the reasons behind these delays and discuss various strategies to overcome obstacles during the completion of these projects. This process has led to the development of a decalogue to guide the tutorial action of the TFG.
Finally, it should be noted that the methodology proposed in this project is highly transferable to most undergraduate and master's degrees offered both at the University of Valencia and other Spanish higher education institutions. For this reason, the research results will be disseminated through various channels such as teaching innovation conferences and scientific publications on educational topics.
