PhD in Sociology (Complutense University of Madrid, 2003). His research interests lie in the interdisciplinary fields of memory studies, genocide studies, and contemporary Jewish studies.
His research projects and publications have addressed witness testimony, theories and methodologies of collective memory, antisemitism, and the discourses and practices of transitional justice, commemoration, and reparation for victims in different contexts. He has worked on the reception of the Holocaust in Spain and its intersections with the Spanish memorial movement, as well as activism for the memory of victims of state terrorism in the Southern Cone. More recently, he has researched the debates surrounding the recognition and reparation of genocides perpetrated against Indigenous populations in the North American Midwest, specifically in the field of educational policies and practices.
His latest book deals with anti-Semitism in the 21st century.
Before joining the CSIC in 2023, he was Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Minnesota (2012-2022). He has also held teaching positions at the Complutense University of Madrid (2004-2009), the University of Bayreuth (2009-2011), and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (2011-2012). He is an assistant editor of Disparidades. Revista de Antropología (CSIC) and is a member of the Spanish Delegation of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
