
He holds a PhD from the University of Valencia. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Master's degree in Chemistry Teaching from the National Pedagogical University (Bogotá, Colombia).
He is currently a Full Professor at the University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia), where he works as a teacher-researcher, and as a professor in the doctoral program in Education and the undergraduate program in Pedagogy. His areas of expertise include epistemology, science didactics, and the learning of scientific concepts. Over the last two decades, he has dedicated his academic and research activities to the field of education in museums and science centers, conducting several research projects and publishing in specialized journals. He has carried out these activities as a member and coordinator of the Research Group on Education in Experimental Sciences and Mathematics (GECEM).
At the University of Antioquia, he has worked in the academic and administrative field as Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Education (2011-2013); Dean of Education (2004-2007; 2013-2016).
He was an Associate Professor at the University of Nariño (Pasto, Colombia), where he had the opportunity to lead the Vice-Rectorate for Research, Graduate Studies, and International Relations and the Research Department. He also served as Coordinator of the Graduate Studies Division of the International Center for Education and Human Development (CINDE) (1989-1996, Pasto, Colombia).
He served as an academic member of the Education Evaluation Panel of the National Intersectoral Commission for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CONACES) (2014-2020). He was a columnist for the Medellín newspaper EL MUNDO (2015-2020). He was an alternate member of the Board of Directors of the Columbus School Corporation (2016-2018). Adherent Member and Vice President of the Francisca Radke Foundation, for the development of the National Pedagogical University and Education in Colombia.
