Graça Boal-Palheiros is Coordinating Professor of the Escola Superior de Educação do Politécnico do Porto, director of CIPEM/INET-md (Center for Research in the Psychology of Music and Musical Education), and teaches in Bachelor's and Master's degrees and coordinates the Master's in Musical education. She has a PhD in Music Psychology from the University of Surrey Roehampton, London and an MA in Music Education from the University of London.

She was a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the ISME-International Society for Music Education and co-chair of the ISME Research Commission. She was president of the Portuguese Association of Musical Education, director of the Revista de Educação Musica and is president of the Wuytack Association of Musical Pedagogy.

Her interests include children's music listening, music teacher training, social inclusion and musical development. She is co-author of the Basic Education Music Education Programs (Ministry of Education, 1991) and author of one of the first research books on music education published in Portugal (APEM, 1993). She has presented and published at national and international conferences, and taught in several countries (Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Spain, Japan, and the United Kingdom).
