Erasmus+ Ready: Addressing Disparities in Literacy Acquisition
Our colleagues from the LABDICOLE research group at the University of Seville are carrying out an interesting project that addresses the learning of reading and writing—key to academic success, social development, and well-being in adulthood—by strengthening the competencies of early primary school teachers regarding social and cognitive factors, and by promoting digital tools for detecting students at risk and training cognitive skills to improve reading. The READy project (Oct. 2024–Sept. 2027), funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ programme, includes a training package (national and international courses and workshops in four countries), an interactive assessment platform for early detection, game-based intervention tools, and the use of machine-learning algorithms and case studies to identify learning needs and trajectories. The expected outcome is a European cooperation network with digitalised procedures, advanced teacher training, and evidence-based strategies to adapt instruction to each student’s needs. Institutions from Italy (University of Florence, IC Gandhi, and Pixel), Portugal (Agrupamento de Escolas Alto do Lumiar, ISCTE), Spain (Unión Sindical de Inspectores de Educación, LABDICOLE–University of Seville), and Romania (Universitatea Româno-Americană, EuroEd) participate in the project.
