Impact of teaching prompts in Generative Artificial Intelligence: a comparative study between integrative writing of informative summaries and persuasive summaries in secondary school students.

This study explores the impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), specifically ChatGPT 3.5, on Spanish high school students' performance in producing informative and persuasive summaries. In a hyper-connected educational context, where students have immediate access to a wealth of information, the integration of GAI tools transforms the way students process and understand knowledge (Hsu & Ching, 2023). Using a 2x2 intersubject design experimental approach, the research involved 200 students divided into control and experimental groups. These students took tests of technology motivation, reading ability, and writing skills before receiving instruction on GAI and prompt construction. They then generated summaries using information from ChatGPT on the effects of Artificial Intelligence on climate change, considering its potential benefits and the pollution risks it could generate. The results were assessed using rubrics that measured both the quality of the prompts and written communication skills. This study seeks to demonstrate that GAI, along with factors such as technological motivation and reading and writing skills, influences academic performance in writing tasks. The findings will provide a theoretical framework for the use of GAI as a facilitating tool in education, highlighting its role in the development of critical skills in digital environments (Crees & Kimmerle, 2023; Kristen & Kendeou, 2023).
