The Interuniversity Research Institute for Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM) of the Universitat Politècnica de València has achieved significant progress in technology transfer and in the assessment of its capabilities thanks to the work carried out by its Innovation Agent over the past year, within the framework of the project MAINTENANCE OF THE IDM INNOVATION AGENT, co-financed by the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness and Innovation (IVACE +i, Generalitat Valenciana) and the European Union through the Operational Programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the Valencian Community 2021–2027 (INNTA1/2023/30).

During this period, the actions undertaken by the Innovation Agent have increased the visibility of IDM, boosted effective market-oriented technology transfer, and strengthened a portfolio of opportunities in collaboration with companies, institutions, and stakeholders of the Valencian Innovation System, in line with the project’s objectives.

The most noteworthy activities include:

Technology Commercialisation and Participation in Transfer Forums

The Innovation Agent has actively promoted the commercialisation of IDM technologies through the identification of potential recipient companies, the preparation of technology transfer materials, and the generation of strategic contacts. In addition, the Agent has reinforced IDM’s presence in key technology transfer forums and events, including Match UPV meetings, Sciences for Industry (S4i), and webinars promoted by open innovation platforms (e.g., SENTIATECH), as well as co-creation workshops and networking events with various agents of the Valencian innovation ecosystem.

Complementarily, targeted meetings with companies have been held to present IDM technologies, explore collaboration pathways, and accelerate validation and transfer processes.

Promotion of Valorisation Projects and Proof-of-Concept Activities

The Innovation Agent has played a key role in advising, preparing, and supporting valorisation and proof-of-concept projects submitted to regional, national, and European funding calls (IVACE+i, AEI, Horizon Europe, among others), facilitating the progression of laboratory results towards real-world applications and market-ready scenarios.

Promotion of Spin-offs and Technology-Based Entrepreneurship

In coordination with the IDM’s UCIE and the innovation unit, the Innovation Agent has contributed to the deployment and consolidation of the JUMP IDM programme, aimed at fostering the creation of companies based on technologies developed at the institute. In 2025, the following initiatives have been particularly noteworthy:

• Agraris Biotech, focused on strategies based on natural materials for pest control.

• NeuroEficiencia, oriented towards the development and commercialisation of a plug-and-play HaaS (hardware + software) platform for monitoring, control, and predictive maintenance of solar plants and energy-consuming facilities.

These initiatives strengthen the link between IDM research and its direct application in the market, advancing towards sustainable technology transfer models.

Patent Management, Protectable Results, and Commercialisation

Together with the UPV Technology Transfer Office, the Innovation Agent has carried out industrial property management actions, drafted technology offers, and supported commercialisation activities. During this period, these efforts have resulted in the promotion of five new patents and three new disclosures of research results, further strengthening IDM’s portfolio of transferable assets.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the project is to ensure continuity in the work of the Innovation Agent at IDM-UPV, guaranteeing the dynamisation of actions aimed at the exploitation and transfer to companies of the knowledge, capabilities, and technologies developed. This includes:

• Promoting applied and results-oriented research.

• Transferring knowledge to the business sector.

• Generating stable, long-term collaborations between industry and the scientific community.

Thanks to this work, IDM continues to position itself as a benchmark in technology transfer, promoting the practical application of research and contributing significantly to socioeconomic development.
