Biography
 

Dr. Irene Comeig has recently been appointed a research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School (USA) in the Women and Public Policy Program (WAPPP). She is an Associate Professor of Finance (with tenure) at the University of Valencia (Spain) and taught Corporate Finance as a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia (USA), Department of Economics, from 2012 to 2015. She has also been a Visiting Professor at the University of Lausanne (Fall 2022) and at the University of Geneva (November 2007-October 2010). Her PhD Thesis obtained the Young Research Award in Economics from the General Foundation of the Complutense University of Madrid, and the Victor Mendoza Award for PhD Theses (1st accésit) from the Institute of Economic Studies (IEE, Spain).

Her main areas of research interest include Behavioral Finance, Experimental Economics, SME Finance and Risk Attitudes. She uses Economics Experiments to analyze behavior and financial decisions of economic agents under risk and ambiguity. Her recent work studies measures that improve the financing of entrepreneurial projects led by women and the integration of women in competitive environments such as science, industry or politics.

Dr. Irene Comeig has served in editorial roles at Journal of Economics and Finance (current Editorial Board Member), Journal of Business ResearchEuropean Journal of Management and Business Economics, and Retos, Revista de Ciencias de Administración y Economía (current Editorial Board Member), and, for more than seven years, has held administrative positions such as Director of the Official Master in Corporate Finance. She has supervised 4 PhD dissertations (one with the Prize for best doctorate student) and more than 20 Master Thesis, and participated in more than 100 international and Spanish conferences. She has participated in 18 research projects, being the Principal Researcher of the INNACC00/2020/40 and INNACC00/19/054 projects funded by the Government of the Generalitat Valenciana.

Biography
 

I am a University Professor in the Department of Corporate Finance at the Faculty of Economics, Universitat de València. I hold a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the same university. Additionally, I have completed the Course of Pedagogical Adaptation (CAP), currently assimilated into the Master's Degree in Secondary Education at the Complutense University of Madrid. I earned my Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of Valencia with a doctoral thesis titled "Valuation of shares in the Spanish and European capital markets," achieving a grade of Excellent Cum Laude.

In the realm of education, I specialize in teaching Finance for the Business Intelligence and Analytics degrees, as well as the double degree in Business Administration and Management and Law. Additionally, I contribute to the Master's programs in Corporate Finance and Business Administration-MBA. My educational contributions extend beyond the classroom. I have authored over forty teaching publications, presented more than twenty papers at educational innovation conferences, and actively participated in thirteen teaching innovation projects. Additionally, I lead the Consolidated Group for Teaching Innovation in Corporate Finance (GINFICO). Notably, I've published two Finance manuals and several book chapters with prestigious publishers, many of which are indexed in the first quartile (Q1) according to Scholarly Publishers Indicators (SPI). My dedication to teaching excellence has been recognized with the Fernando Sapiña award for outstanding teaching materials and the distinction of the best teaching innovation paper at the International Conference on Innovation, Documentation, and Education.

In the realm of research, I serve as the leader of the EFICO research group (), and my current focus revolves around studies related to Sustainable Finance, Corporate Governance, and Board Gender Diversity. Additionally, I have conducted research in Asset Pricing and explored the impact of the economic and industrial environment on financial decisions. My contributions to the academic community extend beyond research, as I have been a speaker at over thirty international and national congresses organized by prestigious entities. These include the European Financial Management Association (EFMA), Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy (GIKA), International Conference on Advanced Research Methods and Analytics (CARMA), Annual Conference ASFAAG (Academy of Sustainable Finance, Accounting, Accountability & Governance), Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, and the Spanish Finance Association (AEFIN), among others. I have authored more than thirty articles in esteemed journals, the majority of which are indexed in the first quartile according to Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Noteworthy publications include articles in Business Ethics, the Environment & Responsibility (Q1), International Business Review (Q1), Journal of Business Research (Q1), Small Business Economics (Q1), European Journal of Finance (Q1), Sustainability-Entrepreneurial Sustainability: New Innovative Knowledge (Q2), Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research (Q2), Quantitative Finance (Q2), and Spanish Journal of Finance & Accounting, among others. My contributions to research have been acknowledged with three prestigious awards from The European Academy of Management and Business Economics and The Iberoamerican Association of Management Control.

Furthermore, I have actively engaged in research contracts with the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE). I have been a key participant in numerous research projects, including several transfer projects recognized by the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI) under the category of “Complementary actions to promote and strengthen innovation.” Additionally, I have contributed to other transfer projects, also acknowledged by the AVI, specifically in the line of “Valorization and transfer of research results to companies."
