The BETA Association of Young Doctors in Hispanic Studies organises its sixth annual congress at the University of Granada, with the participation of professors and former students of the Master’s Degree in Hispanic Studies: Applications and Research.
From Literature to Cultural Studies, research in Hispanic studies covers a really wide field of interest. So that the scientific interchange between researchers continues flowing, not only one platform through which this knowledge can be spread is needed, but also a meeting place for its analysis and debate.
BETA, the Association of Young Doctors in Hispanic Studies, contributes to achieve this flow each year with its Annual International Congress, addressed to young doctors in “all the fields, periods and spaces of Hispanic studies”. It constitutes a space for reflection and exchange where recent doctors can fight the geographical dispersion, characteristical of the post-doctorate period.
This year, the meeting lands in the University of Granada on June 13, 14 and 15. In its sixth edition, the International Congress tackles the topic of the Conflicts and Displacements in Hispanic Cultures, with five thematic focuses: Literary movements of the conflicts and displacements; conceptual dimensions of conflicts and displacements; tradition, modernity and conflict; conflicts and displacements of the canon; conflicts and displacements of codes and media.
The symposium has the representation of the Universitat de València and the Master’s Degree in Hispanic Studies: Applications and Research. On one hand, professor David Giménez Folqués (co-manager of the subject Spanish Language in America and Other Territories) participates on Monday 13 in a debate about “Indigenous Cultures: Conflicts and Displacements.” On the other hand, Luz C. Souto, graduated in the Master’s Degree and doctor in Spanish Studies, takes part in the session titled “Trauma, Memory and Fiction”, and Pablo Andrés Aros Legrand, doctoral student in Hispanic Studies: Applications and Research of the UV, collaborates in the session “Child and Youth Literature: Identities”.
The Universitat de València and the Department of Spanish hosted in 2013 the third edition of the Congress, under the title Literary Horizons: the Work and its Environment, with the collaboration of several professors of the Master’s Degree.
To be a member of BETA and to participate in the congress it is necessary to 1) have obtained the title of Doctor in the last decade, and 2) pay the annual fee of 50 €, which is equivalent to the participation in the International Congress and the membership (to only be a member, the fee is 20 €).
