Andrés Cervantes, full professor of Medicine at the Universitat de València, head of the Neurology Department at the Hospital Clínico Universitario (University Clinical Hospital) and coordinator of the oncology research of INCLIVA, is the first Spanish president of the Scientific Committee of the European Oncology Congress, which will be held in Copenhague from 7 to 11 October. The event is arranged by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and it brings together the elite of the global medical oncology.
The event in Denmark will have more that 20.000 delegates from over 120 countries. More than 1.600 studies will be presented.
The slogan of the meeting is “From disease treatment to patient care”, which emphasises that the patient is the centre of all scientific planned activities. «It is the most renowned European event held in Europe in this field, and it is an honour and a responsibility for me to preside over the Scientific Comitee » says Cervantes.
The ESMO Congress aspires to be the main scientific platform to present the oncological research, to shorten the distance between researchers, clinicians and patients and to be the link to find more effective cancer-treatment solutions.
Andrés Cervantes considers that ESMO 2016 «will mark a milestone in the European medical oncology since it will present the results of studies and research which will result in a change in the everyday clinical practice.»
As president of the ESMO Scientific Comitee 2016, professor Cervantes has participated in the design of activities and the selection of the goals of the congress. «The congress is the culmination of three years of work and more that 3.000 scientific communications were received, and only 1.600 have been accepted, so that the accepted communications have a high quality level» he argues.
The full professor of Medicine at the Universitat de València highlights the training and education offers of the congress, following the success of previous editions, particularly the ESMO colloquia, and its multidisciplinary nature.
