There are four candidatures in the process: Carles Padilla, Juan Luís Gandía, Fran Ródenas, and Ángeles Solanes, who aim to succeed the current Principal, Maria Vicenta Mestre, whose position will conclude after the two terms of four years – the maximum allowed according to the previous regulation.
With the approval of the University System Organic Law (LOSU), these elections are being carried out for a single term of six years, without the possibility of re-electing.

In this context, on 17 February, a discussion of the Senate was held, where each candidate presented its programme and the general overview of its government team in front of the university community.

The election process is guided by a universal weighted suffrage, which assures the participation of every sector from the university community with five electoral colleges grouped together. College A, corresponding to doctor teaching staff with permanent links (PDI), gathers 2 359 people and concentrates 51 % of the weighted vote – College B, from PDI without permanent links (no doctor), gathers 2 693 electors and 12.67 % of the weight – College C, integrated by more than 49 000 students, contributes to the 25 % of the total – College D, the Technical, Management, Administration and Services Staff (PTGAS) counts on 2 960 people and the 10 % of the vote – and College E, the Researchers Doctor on Training (PIF), which includes 661 electors and the remaining 1.33 %.
