18th CRUE Conferences for the Environmental Quality, the Sustainable Development and the Prevention

The Principal of the University of Valencia, Esteban Morcillo, has inaugurated this Thursday in the morning the 18th Conferences of the Permanent Seminar of the CRUE Sectoral Commission for the Environmental Quality, the Sustainable Development and the Prevention (CADEP).

The Polytechnic collaborates in the organization, under the frame of the sustainability strategy planned in the International Campus of Excellency VLC CAMPUS. The conferences are titled ‘New challenges of the University Sustainability’.

Apart from Esteban Morcillo, the Vice-Principal of the Polythecnic Campus and Infrastructures, Salvador López; the general director of Universitat, of Highest Studies and Sciences, José Miguel Saval; the Vice-Principal of Sustainability and Infrastructures of the University of Valencia, Clara Martínez; and Màrius Vicent Fuentes, director of the Prevention and Environment Service of the University of Valencia have also been present in the conferences' inauguration.

Esteban Morcillo has underlined that “our university is committed with sustainability", and has gone over the issues dealing with sustainability the University of Valencia has approved through the last years, such as the Strategic Plan (2008-2011); the Prevention Plan, in December 2009; or the 'Sustainable Campus' programme, too, in September 2011. The Principal of the University has wished the participants a good application of the conferences for these to "serve to improve the values which we are committed with”. 

Salvador López, Vice-Principal for Campus and Infrastructures of the Polytechnic, has insisted on “we are committed with this working group from the beginning”, and has analysed his university steps in the path towards sustainability. López has also thanked “the University the organization of the conferences, and especially Clara Martínez”. 

José Miguel Saval, general director of Universitat, Highest Studies and Science, has pointed out: “In my opinion the conferences have an extraordinary content”. “Today, we talk about sustainability, environmental quality and prevention. What we treat here is of great importance”. In this sense, Saval has committed himself to spread the conference's conclusions to society.

More than 120 people have enrolled, among management responsibles and specialist technicians, coming from more than 40 universities all along Spain, as well as public institutions' specialists and authorities in matters of sustainability and risk prevention in the workplace.

The conferences take place on Thursday, the 8th of March, in the historic building of La Nau, with morning session, and in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in afternoon session, and also on Friday, the 9th, the entire morning, in the Botanical Garden of the University.

After the inauguration conferences, there are specific conferences with a wide participation of pretigious specialists in diverse fields. In the first one, the responsability in matters of researchers' prevention and prevention technicians (with Tomás Sala, Federico Pallardó and Joaquín Martínez Triguero) is analysed. The certification of university buildings will be commented by Víctor Manuel Soto; the environmental risks, by Jesús Candenas; and the nanotechnology and its implication in the risk prevention in the workplace will be dealt with by Eugenio Coronado and Daniel Sainz.

Thursday conference also has other acts, such as the presentations of the programme framing the University of Valencia ‘Sustainable Campus, under the charge of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability and Infrastructures, Clara Martínez; the project presented by the University to adscribe in the ‘Red Española de Universidades Saludables’ REUS (Spanish Net of Beneficial Universities) under the charge of Dolors Corella; and the ‘Red Española de Laboratorios Sostenibles’ Lab’s (Spanish Ned of Sustainable Labs), of the Environment, Innovation and Technology Maite Foundation .

Friday conference will have as main activity the Executive Commission and CADEP's Plenary meetings, both presided by the Principal of the University of Girona, Maria Àngels Geli.
