A seminar explains to female university students how to act in the face of chemical submission drugs and the UV kit to prevent them

The ScienceFlows research group at the University of Valencia (UV) will hold an online seminar aimed at young university students on July 7, 9 and 15 at 5pm, discussing chemical submission or drug supply to override someone’s will. Also, and within the NOSUM project (Design and Evaluation of a personal kit to prevent sexual assaults by chemical submission) will be announced the kit developed by the MODeLic research group of the University of Valencia that detects the drug GHB or ecstasy liquid in beverages.

Participants will be able to pick up 3 kits at specific points at their university that will be used by female students at any time they feel their drinks may have been contaminated.

The aim of this project is to develop a quick, reliable and easy-to-use kit that can be used in the usual contexts of alcohol consumption. The use of these kits in real environments by the participants will ensure that they meet the needs of end users: young people, especially women.

GHB is one of the most widely used drugs in crimes that seeks to nullify the will of the victims. This compound, also known as liquid ecstasy, is colorless and is imperceptible on the palate when dissolved in beverages. Therefore, the MoDeLiC research group of the Interuniversity Institute of Molecular Recognition and Technological Development (IDM) and the ScienceFlows group, both of the University of Valencia, have launched the NOSUM project, funded by the Ministry of Health within the National Plan of Drugs with the aim is to develop and evaluate a kit of easy use that allows to identify of fast form if a drink has been contaminated with acid γ-Hydroxybutyric (GHB).
