The Aikido is a martial art which allows the students to defend themselves against one or several armed or disarmed adversaries. The main difference of Aikido from other martial arts is that it seeks the deterrence of the adversary’s aggressive intention rather than defeating him. That is why body movement and immobilisation techniques are used to destabilise or dominate the adversary, apart from punches in vital spots of the body. Practice includes the use of a set of diverse weapons.

Differently from other martial arts, Aikido is not competition-based.
