500 students overflow the campus on the occasion of the University Sports International Day

The Universitat de València commemorated on 20 September the University Sports International Day (IDUS). It is a day where students and workers who attended were the protagonists, as well as the physical and sports activities, in the Physical Education and Sports Service.

The objective of naming a University Sports International Day is guaranteeing and preserving, for students and citizens, the activities and sports programmes in the institutions of higher education, aiming to promote physical education and its essential contributions to healthy life styles, non-discrimination, gender equality, social inclusion, integrity and a socially responsible citizenship.

On the occasion of this day, the Physical Education and Sports Service has also organised an open day conference in the afternoon of 20 September that offers 17 different activities: zumba, hip-hop, aerotínic, aerobic-GAC, flamingo, basketball, indoor football, handball, tennis, seven-a-side football, rugby, volleyball, inclusive table-tennis, badminton, padel tennis, wheelchair paddle tennis and inclusive goalball. A little sample of the activities offer and sports schools that the Physical Education and Sports Service offers to the citizenship.

For José Campos, director of the Physical Education and Sports Service, the result of the conference has been “very positive, we have had a large inflow in all the modalities offered in the open day. I think we have reached the objective of the Day and, also, the lecture of the participation makes us consider the possibility of organising in the future other open day, a very positive activity that helps encouraging and promoting the sports practice.”
