The men’s football team and the women’s seve-a-side football team of the Universitat de València disputed, between the 9 and 13 May, the Football University Spanish Championship that took place in Almería. The women’s team got the gold medal while the men’s team won the bronze medal, a result that shows one more time the good moment of these teams.

The women’s seven-a-side football team coached by José Andrés Menchero revalidated the title it had as university Spanish champion, after beating 2-1 the Autonomous University of Madrid in a very competed game.

The Menchero’s team started their way in the National Championship with a start in the group phase that left nobody indifferent: 9-1 against the University of Seville, 6-0 against the University of A Coruña and 9-0 against the University of Vic. This put the team in the first place of the team and got it straight to the national final. The big rival, the Autonomous University of Madrid, was a physically superior team, but the talent of the Valencian team and the desire to reach the first place of the podium one academic year more was reflected from the starting whistle, with a goal by Neus Motoso that was quickly responded by the Madrid team with another from a play from the corner kick. The team arrived to the break with 1-1 until the ten last minutes of the game, when a goal by Alicia Moreno came that added the 2-1 final.

By its part, the team coached by Vicente Amposta and Xavi Planes was in the previous phase with similar teams that made the results between the teams to decide who reached the final. The men’s team started the national championship with a 0-0 draw against the University of Extremadura. They lost the second game against the University of Granada, 1-2, which left them out of the final. If they wanted to reach the bronze medal, they needed to win the next game and the team did not disappoint: they won 8-0 against the University of Lleida, thus they got the bronze medal.
