The Universitat de València achieved an outstanding result in the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU), whose finals took place on Wednesday, March 12, in Alicante. With 11 gold medals and a silver, the UV established itself as the great winner of the competition, dominating most of the team finals.
Dominance in Team Sports
In women's football, the UV overwhelmed the Universitat d'Alacant (UA) with a resounding 0-10 victory. In women's basketball, the match was closely contested, with an exciting 60-61 win also against UA, while in men's basketball, the UV team secured a solid 56-76 victory against the Universidad Católica de Valencia (UCV).
Volleyball also played a key role for the UV, with two victories: in women's volleyball, the Universitat de València defeated UA 2-3, while in men's volleyball, they won 1-3 against the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). In men's futsal, the UV claimed victory over UA with a 3-5 scoreline. The only setback came in the women's futsal final, where the Universitat Jaume I (UJI) won 3-1, leaving our team in second place in the championship.
In women's handball, the UV had to face UA after the acceptance of an appeal submitted by the Alicante university, which allowed them to reach the final. The Universitat de València secured a convincing 20-29 victory.
Outstanding Performance in Tennis and Padel
The UV tennis and padel teams demonstrated exceptional skill in the competition, securing 3-0 victories without dropping a single set in any category. In tennis, UV players completely dominated their matches: in the men's singles category, the UV representative won decisively with scores of 6-2 and 6-2. In the women's singles draw, the superiority was even more evident, with a commanding 6-0 and 6-0 victory. In the mixed doubles category, the UV sealed the tie with a comfortable 6-1 and 6-3 win.
In padel, the UV repeated its flawless performance with another dominant victory. In men's singles, the Valencian team won 6-2 and 6-2, while in the women's singles draw, the difference was overwhelming with another 6-0 and 6-0. In the mixed doubles match, the UV secured the triumph with a 6-1 and 6-3 victory, showcasing their strength in this discipline.
Rugby: UV Secures a Double Win in a Special Format
Due to adaptations caused by the DANA weather event, the rugby competitions were condensed into a single day with semifinals and finals. In women's rugby, the UV defeated UA in the semifinals with a commanding 35-0 victory and claimed the championship by winning 36-0 in the final against the Universidad Europea de Valencia (UEV). In men's rugby, the UV overcame UJI in the semifinals with a 38-17 win and secured the title by defeating UPV 29-7 in the final.
With these results, the Universitat de València reaffirms its leadership in autonomous university sports, demonstrating the quality and commitment of its athletes. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this edition of the CADU!
