The Universitat de València was responsible for the organisation of the sailing competition of the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU), held on 25 March in Calpe, in collaboration with Calpe Royal Nautical Club. The competition, which brought together the main universities of the Valencian Community, shinned due to the high level of the athletes and the excellent organisation of the event.
The UV team, consisting of Justo Martínez Terrasa, Antonio Martino Martínez, Marina Borrás Ugarriza, Alexandra Sameño Daurel and Pablo Moreno Pascual, under the guidance of their trainer Juan Calvo, won silver after a series of exciting regattas in which they showed off their great technique and teamwork. The Universitat Politècnica de València won gold, while the University of Alacant completed the podium after winning bronze.
The competition began at 9:00am checking the credentials and documentation, followed with the beginning of regattas at 10:00am. Throughout the day, the teams competed in an environment filled with competitiveness.
Renowned authorities were present at the trophy ceremony, among them: Mireia Ripoll, Calpe Tourism town councillor; Ximo Perles, Calpe Sport town councillor; and Juan Belliure, President of the Calpe Royal Nautical Club. During the act, Belliure highlighted the long standing collaboration between the Universitat de València and the club since 1999, mentioning historic event such as the ‘Cinc segles’ (Five centuries) regatta, which celebrated the 500 anniversary of the UV, as well as other autonomic and national competitions which were jointly organised. Furthermore, they also thanked the technical staff of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community as well as the arbiter team for their efforts and involvement throughout the development of the competition.
From the Universitat de València, the organisation and development of the championship is highly valued, reinforcing the commitment to the university sport and the promotion of sailing among the students. After winning this silver, the UV further stablishes itself as one of the leading universities of the autonomic sports panorama.
