The UV’s team selections will compete on 30 November in the third session of the University Regional Sports Championship (CADU), the competition in which all the universities of the Valencian university system compete. The rival in this session will be the University of Alicante, which is at the halfway point of the league, with similar results to those obtained by the UV.
In Alicante, the masculine basketball and football teams will open the event. They will start competing from 12:00 at the Technicifation Centre and the football field of the University of Alicante, respectively. Pepe Casares, coach of the basketball team, says that the team has faced the event ‘with absolute ambition since the beginning of the competition, and with the maximum insistence; we know how difficult it is to go to Alicante, and we are prepared for playing all out at that important event.’ On his part, Vicente Amposta, trainer of the football team, considers the match to be ‘the most difficult of the CADU’s competition, given the trip and the level of training we will play against, since it is a team that has a small advantage compared to the others, for competing at federate level. We will try to get the three points so that we will be able to reach the final of the championship’.
At 12:00, a masculine five-a-side soccer competition will take place at the sports centre of the University of Alicante. According to Javier Arnau, coach of the team, the match is ‘very complicated because there is a lot at stake. After having tanked in the first matches, people from Alicante are finishing off their last options to reach the final. In the CADU, all matches against direct rivals are difficult, and even more if the match is in the opposing side. But after the good beginning of the competition, we travelled to Alicante to win and have all options in order to face the last games with all the possibilities. The players are fully psyched, and we want to go on showing that we are a team with real strength and that we want to play the final game”.
The next matches will be the women’s basketball (at 14:00) in the Centro de Tecnificación of Alicante and the women’s futsal, at 15:00. The players of futsal, coached by Ángel Zurilla, “need to win after the fail of the last week against the Miguel Hernández, but we know it will be complicated, due to the results of the Universidad de Alicante in previous events (they won 1-19 against the UPV and 16-1 to the Universidad Católica of Valencia). Anyway, we will try it giving the best picture possible.”
At the UV, the event will be opened by women’s handball and tennis teams at 13:00. The team led by Sagrario Santana will face the Alicante players in the university pavilion of the UV, while the tennis players will play in Tarongers Campus.
For its part, the paddle team will play three games, (men, women and mixt) at 13:30 in the tracks 1, 2 and 3, simultaneously.
Later, the Aulario V will host the women’s volleyball team (14:00) and in the University pavilion it will be played the game of men’s handball (15:00). The team of men’s volleyball will close the day at 16:00.
As on previous university sports occasions, the Physical Education and Sports Service offers live coverage and monitoring of the teams through its social networks (Twitter: @sefuv and www.facebook.com/SEFUV)) in which it provides to all the fans the most immediate information on the results of the games.
