The table tennis team of the Universitat de València became yesterday regional champion in the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU), the competition in which the universities of the Valencian Community meet. This tournament is the step prior to the greatest event: University Championship of Spain.

The Centro de Tecnificación de Alicante hosted this Championship in which the team of the Universitat de València, led by Jose Maria Grau, managed to climb to the top of the podium thanks to the performance of all its members, who played great at the tournament. Bianca Descals, Carla Copovi, José Miguel Vilaplana and Valentín Conrard, fell in different phases, while their team mates Ruth Olea and Javier Rodilla achieved to get into the final round.

Rodilla faced Carlos Rico, representative of the University of Alacant, at the same time that Ruth Olea played against Mónica Hortal of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. The final rounds were much disputed; Olea did not manage to beat the opponent from Elche and finished as runner-up, while her team mate Javi Rodilla won against his adversary from Alacant and obtained the prized gold.

According to the coach, José María Grau, the result is "fantastic, this is the first time we have been champions of the Regional University Sports Championship, and first time we have such a high participation. The team is growing bit by bit, half the team are first-year students and they have really enjoyed this Championship, so I hope we remain on this path and the students are encouraged to participate. "
