The Universitat de València achieves five golds, seven silvers, and nine bronzes in the CEU of athletics, judo, wrestling, and taekwondo

The Universitat de València recorded an excellent set of results in the Spanish University Championship (CEU) at athletics, judo, wrestling, and taekwondo, held in different Andalusian cities. The UV team achieved this weekend five golds, seven silvers, and nine bronzes, in a participation that confirms the high competitive level of its athletes in different sporting disciplines.

In athletics, held in Jaén from 8 to 10 May, the Universitat de València obtained seven podiums. Alejandro Pérez Castellote was second at 10.000 metres, Javier García Rodrigo obtained silver in 110-metre hurdles, and Elena Guiu Lapena got the second place in 100-metre dash. The relay comprised of Ramón García, Elena Guiu, José Miguel Armero, and Camila Estrebou also achieved the second place in 4x100. Naroa Furundarena Urkola –third in triple jump, Laura Castillo Ibáñez –bronze in 200-metre dash, and Oscar Gimeno Cotaina –third in hammer throw, also got on the podium.

In judo, held at the University of Granada from 8 to 9 May, Odalis Santiago Santana achieved the silver medal in the category of Women’s 57 kg. The competition gathered athletes from several universities across the country at the facilities of this university, with a round and repechage system by weight categories.

The UV participation in wrestling left four bronzes and a silver medal. Alba Abellán Pérez achieved the silver medal, whereas Cristina Andújar Ojeda and Álvaro Abellán Bondía achieved the bronze. Additionally, the Universitat de València ended up third on the general ranking, and third also on the women’s university ranking. Organised by the University of Granada, the competition was held at the Club de Luchas Macarena.

In taekwondo, the Universitat de València accomplished its great performance with five golds, a silver, and two bronzes, in addition to the first place in team standings. Álvaro Córdoba Villarte won the gold in Men’s 58 kg, while Júlia Martínez Sevilla took the first place in Women’s 49 kg. Alejandro Martín Sánchez was the winner in Men’s 87 kg, and Vanessa Stopalka achieved another gold medal in Women’s 67 kg. Paula López Jiménez won the bronze in Women’s +73 kg, and Jorge Murillo Palacios got on the podium too, with a bronze in Men’s 63 kg. Carolina Piquer and Samuel Solaz achieved silver in Mixed Pair Poomsae. 

With these results, the Universitat de València reinforces its presence in the national university medal table and confirms the high competitive level of its athletes in different sporting disciplines.
