
The Universitat de València had some great results in various individual categories at the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU), especially in frontenis, as well as chess, archery and badminton
Frontenis, a category organised by the Universitat de València
The frontenis CADU games took place on Thursday 26 February under the supervision of the Universitat de València at the Natzaret Sports Centre, since there are four 30 metre court walls in these facilities. The results were very positive for the UV, since it placed first in all the categories:
- Women’s category
- First place for Lucía Pilar – Amparo Leire (UV)
- Second place: Universitat Politècnica de València
- Mixed category
- First place for Ana González – Nacho Pacheco (UV)
- Second place: Universitat Politècnica de València
- Third place: Universitat Jaume I
- Men’s category
- First place: Ricardo Varea - Carlos Garcia (UV)
- Second place: Universitat d’Alacant
- Third place: Universitat Politècnica de València
In the general table between universities, the Universitat de València algo got first place, followed by the Universitat d’Alacant and the Universitat Politècnica de València.
Individual gold in chess
On February 24, the Túria campus of the European University of Valencia hosted the autonomous university chess competition, a session where the high competitive level required was very present. The student from the Universitat de València Diego Macias Pino proclaimed himself the individual autonomous champion, earning the only individual title the UV got in this competition. Furthermore, the university team placed third in the team category, showing strength and strategic skills up until the very last move.
Participation in the mountain race
The Universitat de València was also represented in the mountain race competition, which was celebrated in la Vall d’Uixó and organised by the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera. Despite not placing in the top three, the UV athletes completed this event with a high level of commitment, showing effort, resolve and the ability to overcome difficulties throughout the whole route.
Second place in archery between universities
The archery CADU was hosted at the Universitat de València archery court, with the Universitat Politècnica de València as the university responsible for organising it. The UV got the following results:
- Recurved – First men’s category
- Leonardo García de Luna, third place
- Recurved – First women’s category
- Elena Larrea Estrelles, third place
- Recurved – Second men’s category
- Faisel Montañana Saeed, first place
- Enric Serrano Peris, third place
- Recurved – Second women’s category
- Meritxell García Suñer, first place
- Justyna Lewko Dabrowska, third place
- Recurved – Third men’s category
- Santiago Ruiz García, second place
- Valentino Boggione Britos, third place
- Recurved – Third women’s category
- Irene Martínez Peiró, third place
- Compound – First women’s category
- Mónica Coniglio Grau, first place
- Nataly del Águila de Cárdenas, third place
Thanks to these results, the Universitat de València placed second in the general table between universities.
Good results in badminton
On 25 February, the autonomous university badminton championship was celebrated in Alicante. This competition was organized by the Universitat Miguel Hernández d’Elx at the Pabellón Pedro Ferrándiz. The athletes representing the Universitat de València got the following results:
- Silver in women’s double category: Natalia Benlloch and Núria Martínez
- Bronze in mixed category: Rio Abril and David Polop
- Bronze in women’s category: Núria Martínez
The Sports Service of the University of València wants to congratulate the student athletes and thank them for their effort, as well as the essential work from the technical staff and the coaches for their job and constant support throughout all competitions. The next Autonomous University Sports Championship date will be next week, with the celebration of the CADU team finals, which will take place in Castelló on 4 March and will be broadcast live.
