The Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU) concluded its semi-finals phase on 18 and 19 February with a very positive assessment for the Universitat de València. The UV will be present in eleven out of the fourteen categories at the CADU finals, expected to take place at the Universitat Jaume I on 4 March.
The men’s basketball and futsal teams fell in very demanding matches with away disadvantage, preventing them from going into the finals. The men’s basketball team lost at the Universitat Miguel Hernández court (90-78), while the men succumbed to the Universitat d’Alacant (2-1) in futsal. However, the women’s teams obtained better results in these categories. In basketball, they prevailed with ease against the Universitat Politècnica de València (92-53), while the futsal team pulled off a narrow but decisive victory against the UPV (3-4), which grants them access to the finals.
The handball and volleyball teams also shined with two victories – one from the men and one from the women – as locals. The men’s volleyball team outplayed the UA 3-0 and the women prevailed against the UPV with the same score. In handball, the UV beat the Universitat Catòlica de València in the men’s category (37-29) and the UA (35-28) in the women’s category.
In football, the women won against the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera by a landslide (6-0) and they will participate in the finals. Meanwhile, the men’s team was eliminated after losing by one goal to Alacant (2-1).
As for racquet sports, both tennis and paddle tennis will be represented by the UV at the CADU finals. Since the UV has already secured its spot at the national championship, only the autonomous champion title will be on the line in the Castelló competition.
Meanwhile, the CADU finals will be decisive for the rest of the team sports, since they will determine which teams qualify for the Spanish University Championship.
